Summer Tournaments

Yes we may be into the opening weekend of the Euro 2016 tournament from France, when all the big grown up kids like my husband get giddy and over excited about too much football being on television. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind it. I appreciate these big tournaments, after all the Euros and the World Cup are only on every two years.

I have no issues with my kids putting up wall charts, swapping stickers or match cards and then watching their country and maybe some of the other odd games. However, I hear my husband chatting to his friends and other dads about sticker swaps their sons or daughters have. Where they’ve put up their wallchart (kitchen sounds the most popular) and how they’ve not missed a single match as yet.

Big kids the lot of them. Some girlfriends and wives may get angry and annoyed by their partners actions. I don’t. I just have to laugh about how childish they become but in some ways, love how passionate they become about every little detail of these summer tournaments and some countries they’ve never even visited.

Anyway, whilst my husband is enjoying his tournaments, our lad and probably your children around the country are starting to prepare for kids summer tournaments across the country.

Soccer goals

Different sized goals for the kids summer tournaments

We’ve been to one already and it was a great success, and I’m not basing that success on the pitch as such. I’m basing it on how much fun all of the kids are having. As to me that is the most important thing about kids summer tournaments.

Yes, you want your children to win, yes you want their team to win. However, if that comes at the cost of maybe a certain child not getting a game, being shoved in-goal when they do not want to, then that is no success in my opinion.

Thankfully so far, the coaches I’ve seen at the our tournaments and hopefully at future tournaments allow every child as much time on the pitch as the next child.

Parents have responsibility as well, allow the coaches to make the decisions. They’re volunteers and I’m positive that at least 98% of them want well for all the children they coach.

Anyway, time to hide the face paint before my husband finds that too.
